The Hershey brand is known around the world and generates positive interest in visiting the area. Combined with the destination appeal of Harrisburg, the two areas have ample cross visitation.
Dauphin County has 7,250 sleeping rooms with lodging occupancy consistently higher than the national average. Occupancy is driven by approximately 1/3 leisure travelers, 1/3 meeting and convention, 1/3 business and transient travelers.
The most popular activities noted by visitors include: Dining, Shopping, Parks and Museums. Additionally, visitors seek weekend getaways that include entertainment/fun, history, rest/relaxation and sightseeing.
The Hershey Harrisburg region is by far a leading tourism destination within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. According to the 2006 Economic Impact of Travel & Tourism in Pennsylvania report, the region ranked 5th in the state for overall visitor spending at just over $1.4 billion dollars.
